Several miles deep into the backcountry along the Cement Creek River, the terrain turns wild and rugged. The peaceful soundtrack broken only by the sound of rushing waters, the piercing call of a Red Tailed hawk, or in this case, the bugling of a bull elk directing a herd across the valley floor.

Note: The title of this painting is accompanied by the word “Compagno”, which is Italian for companion. This indicates that the painting has a companion piece of either smaller or larger scale. The Compagno is not be confused with a “Study”. These paintings are worked on simultaneously. By working alongside one another as companions, each piece contributes to the creation of a concept. Sometimes the smaller painting is finished first, but just as often the larger painting is completed first.
