Hidden and nestled in a nook just west and above the town of Crested Butte Colorado is a pristine patch of land that has been in the valley for generations. So inspiring is this little piece of Heaven that over the years I’ve created nearly a dozen paintings, during all seasons, trying to capture the magic of it’s singular beauty. Here, employing just a bit of artistic license, is a playful winter scene which tugs a bit at my own personal sense of youthful nostalgia with fond memories of afterschool iceskating and sledding.

Note: The title of this painting is accompanied by the word “Compagno”, which is Italian for companion. This indicates that the painting has a companion piece of either smaller or larger scale. The Compagno is not be confused with a “Study”. These paintings are worked on simultaneously. By working alongside one another as companions, each piece contributes to the creation of a concept. Sometimes the smaller painting is finished first, but just as often the larger painting is completed first.
